You can send money to 38 countries in 20 currencies from within the app.
We can only send payments in the currency of the country which is receiving the payment (e.g. we cannot send USD to Hong Kong or GBP to Canada) unless it is one of the countries supported for Euro (SEPA payments) from our Euro accounts. You can check the details of what currency can be received in each country here.
Go to “Payments” then click “send money” and choose “Foreign Exchange rates”.
You can then choose the international currency and enter the amount you want to send in GBP or the amount in the foreign currency you want your payee to receive.
The app will automatically update to show the amount you will pay and the amount received to reflect the real exchange rate and Starling fees.
The international exchange rate we give you is the actual rate we are charged for buying and selling currencies and is guaranteed for 30 seconds. We will add an 0.4% fee on all transfers, with a minimum charge of £0.30* ( +£5.50 for SWIFT which is an option you can select in app, further details below). We will always make the exchange rate and any fees and charges clear to you before you make a transfer. The full list of charges per currency is available here.
You can then set up a new payee or select an existing payee.
The foreign exchange market closes on weekends so we can only process international payments from 02:00 Monday to 20:00 Friday. You can continue to make transfers between your own Starling GBP, Euro and USD accounts on weekends using our special weekend exchange rate.
