Yes – you can deposit a cheque free of charge. Just pop it in an envelope addressed to 'Freepost STARLING' (no stamp required). Remember to clearly write your last name and your eight digit Starling account number on the back of the cheque. The cheque must be made out to the account holder's full name and drawn in pounds sterling.
If you'd rather send your cheque by registered delivery, use our PO Box address: Starling Bank, PO Box 74352, London, EC2P 2QU.
As soon as we receive your cheque, you'll get an in-app notification. From that point, it usually takes two working days for the cheque to clear and for the money to be available in your account.
Launching soon - we’re introducing mobile cheque deposits using the Starling app. We’re rolling this out slowly, so we’re sorry if this isn’t available to you yet. To check if you have this feature, go to Add money > Cheque Deposit. Once the feature becomes available in your app, you’ll be able to take a picture of your cheque to deposit it. Please hold on to the physical cheque until you’re sure the money has cleared (we’ll send you a push notification when that happens). This is normally two working days after the cheque has been deposited.
The cut-off time for deposits via the app is 3pm on any working day. Please note that cheque processing doesn’t take place on weekends or bank holidays.
Something else to note: cheques deposited in-app are limited to £500 in value. There is also a weekly limit of how many cheques you can deposit via the app. For personal, joint and sole trader accounts, you can deposit up to four cheques a week. Businesses can deposit up to ten cheques a week. If you need to deposit more cheques than this, please post your cheques to the above address - making sure to put your surname and eight digit Starling account number on the back of each cheque.
