You can deposit a cheque by posting it to us or uploading it from the app. Cheques deposited in-app are limited to £500 in value. There is also a weekly limit of how many cheques you can deposit via the app (ten for limited companies, four for sole traders, personal and joint account holders).
From the app, you just need to:
- Go to the menu and select Add money
- Then select Cheque Deposit.
Please ensure you take a clear photo of your cheque and hold on to the physical cheque until you’re sure the money has cleared. We’ll send you a push notification when that happens which is normally two working days after the cheque has been deposited.
The cut-off time for deposits via the app is 3pm on any working day and we can only accept GBP cheques dated within the last 6 months. Please note that cheque processing doesn’t take place on weekends or bank holidays.
If you need to deposit a cheque larger than £500 or more cheques than the weekly limit, just pop it in an envelope addressed to 'Freepost STARLING' (no stamp required) - making sure to put your surname and eight digit Starling account number on the back of each cheque.
Royal Mail freepost delivery takes three days - time frames may vary depending on how it's sent and where it's being sent from. If you would like your cheque to arrive sooner than three days you have the option to pay to send it via first class post.
